Donors & Sponsors

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is indebted to our community partners who donate or help us purchase food, sponsor our events, and help underwrite the cost of Food Bank operations.

Foundation grants, corporate sponsorship, and individual donations make up the lion’s share of the funds that support the Food Bank. Government support makes up only 29% of the Food Bank’s budget.

The Food Bank welcomes donations of food and grocery items. You can find information about most-needed items and drop-off locations on the donate food page. Commercial food donors please read about our food donation programs on the sources of food page.

Specific support programs are important to the Food Bank:

  • Companies or groups that are looking for a worthy team-building service project should consider the Cereal Project. Dry cereal is nutritious, easy for children and seniors to fix and eat, and very expensive in individual boxes. Companies can purchase bulk cereal for the Food Bank and then have their employees volunteer for a day to repackage the cereal into family-size bags complete with a label acknowledging your company. A lunch and/or meeting room is available for your group during the day. PNC Bank, Ameriprise and GlaxoSmithKline are just a few of the companies who have found this program rewarding. Email the Development Department if your company would like to sponsor a truckload of cereal.
  • Corporate group volunteers are always welcome on other projects: Repack, Gleaning, Special Events. Contact the Volunteer Coordinators to make arrangements.
  • The Food Bank is always looking for sponsors of special events like The Pittsburgh Blues Festival, Empty Bowls, Hunger Awareness Day and others. Receive presence in promotions, possible naming rights, blocks of tickets and other benefits depending on level of sponsorship. Please contact the Development Department for more information.
  • All donations of funds and food made in the months of March and April each year count toward assessing the Food Bank’s share of the annual $1 million grant to food assistance agencies nationwide from the Feinstein Foundation .
  • Each fall for the past 22 years, KDKA-TV 2 has conducted the KD Turkey Fund, which enables the Food Bank and other agencies distribute certificates that enable families to have a real Thanksgiving meal. In November send your check to P.O. Box thanks, Pittsburgh, PA 15230.
  • The Food Bank participates in Goodwill Industries’ Vehicle Donation Program. If you have a used car, truck, boat, trailer, motorcycle or other vehicle you would like to donate, please contact the Director of Individual Gifts.
