Blues for Food - Local blues musician Eugene Morgan (of Eugene & the Nightcrawlers) and his friends warm up a Sunday in February each year with this local all-day bluesfest at Delmenico's Pizzeria & Ristorante in Cranberry. All proceeds benefit the Food Bank. Learn about sponsorship opportunities.
Carving Out Hunger: Summer Homework - Feed Our Kids - From May 1st until Hunger Awareness Day in June, make donations of food or cash at any Citizens Bank branch. Donations stay where they were collected, so you can help fight hunger right in your community. Citizens also makes a large donation to the Food Bank.
Comedy Relief - Pittsburgh area comedian Buzz Nutley doesn't find hunger funny, so he and his friends "stand up for hunger" once a year at Seven Springs Mountain Resort to raise funds for the Food Bank. Learn about sponsorship opportunities.
Community Partners Concert - Held annually in June, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and a special musical guest host an evening of music each year to benefit local charities, including the Food Bank. The symphony underwrites the cost of the musicians and guests, so all proceeds raised through ticket sales go to the charity of your choice. When you purchase tickets, remember to designate the Food Bank!
D-Jam - An annual rock against hunger evening of local music to support the Food Bank. Learn about sponsorship opportunities.
Empty Bowls - a simple meal of soup and bread to raise awareness about hunger in our community. Held annually in March, Empty Bowls features soups donated from Pittsburgh's restaurants, entertainment, silent auction of world-class ceramic art, kids' activities, and each ticketholder chooses a beautiful hand made ceramic bowl to take home. Benefits the Food Bank and Just Harvest. Learn about sponsorship opportunities.
Fall FoodShare - On weekends during October & November, the Girl Scouts of America and other volunteers will be at your local Giant Eagle collecting food. While you're shopping, purchase a few extra items for the hungry (we'll give you a list of what's most needed), or make a cash donation at the register. Remember, every dollar you donate makes it possible for the food bank to purchase five dollars worth of food! Learn about sponsorship opportunities.
Golf SOME - Yes, it's another golf tournament, but for such a great cause, how can you resist? Come Golf So Others May Eat. Learn about sponsorship opportunities.
Hunger Awareness Day - Held the first Tuesday in June, Hunger Awareness Day is marked nationwide to bring attention to childhood hunger, especially as the school year ends, along with school meals for hungry kids. Find a local event, or start your own and list it here. Learn about sponsorship opportunities.
KD Turkey Fund - More than 25 years ago, KDKA-TV personality Al Julius was given a ten-dollar bill by a listener with instructions to "help a local family have a Thanksgiving turkey," and the KD Turkey Drive was born. Over ten million dollars later, tens of thousands of families in need have been able to gather with their families and celebrate with thanks of their own.
Max Starks & Friends Thanksgiving Food Drive - Pittsburgh Steeler Offensive Tackle Max Starks helps local families have a very Happy Thanksgiving by distributing turkeys and all the fixins for a great meal to some families in need. Turkeys are heavy, so he brings along some of his Steeler pals. Usually held the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, look for Max and his friends at Dicks Sporting Goods at the Mall at Robinson - and don't forget it's also a food drive! Learn about sponsorship opportunities.
Penguins Food Drive - Now that the Pens are staying in Pittsburgh, the Penguins Annual Food Drive continues to be a tradition. Fans bring non-perishables to a home game, or make a cash donation, and get a raffle ticket for some cool autographed Penguin stuff. Date varies, but we'll remind you! Learn about sponsorship opportunities.
Pittsburgh Blues Festival - The Food Bank's signature annual event. Pittsburgh Blues Festival takes place annually in July at Hartwood Acres, and features the best in national and local blues musicians. Good food, kids' activities, merchandise, LaBatt, family-friendly, and all proceeds benefit the Food Bank. For the latest, visit the Blues Festival website or call the Blues Hotline: 412-460-BLUE. Learn about sponsorship opportunities.
Scouting for Food - for more than 20 years the Boy Scouts of America-Greater Pittsburgh Council have made April Scouting for Food Month. More than 6,000 Boy Scouts hand out grocery bags in their neighborhoods, and pick them up when they're full. Pittsburgh's conscientious corporations also participate, collecting cans or hosting Virtual Food Drives. No cans to haul or store, just click and drag that food to your shopping cart and paying securely online! (and cash donations are tax deductible!) And don't forget: Pirates Opening Day at PNC Park is Scouting for Food Day - bring those cans!
Stamp Out Hunger - The National Association of Letter Carriers' "Stamp Out Hunger" Campaign is the largest one-day food drive in the nation, collecting more than 70 million pounds of food nationwide each year. Held in mid-May, all you have to do is put a sturdy bag of non-perishable grocery items out by your mail box before your regular mail delivery time, and your friendly letter carrier will pick it up. All donations remain in the area they were collected - a great opportunity to help struggling families right in your neighborhood!
Steelers Food Drive - Our own Super Bowl champion team helps the Food Bank with an annual food drive at a home game in the fall. The date varies, so check back to keep track! Learn about sponsorship opportunities.
Taste of the Nation - Share Our Strength's preeminent cuisine celebration to benefit hunger relief organizations nationwide. In Pittsburgh, you can elegantly sip and taste your way through the creative wares of more than 20 of the finest chefs and special cocktail mixologists. A significant annual fundraiser that benefits the Food Bank, Just Harvest, and the Hunger Action Center.
Walk for A Healthy Community - Held in May, the Walk for A Healthy Community benefits more than 30 local charities which sign up walkers and sponsors. Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield underwrites the entire cost of the Walk, so all proceeds go directly to the charities. Combining healthy exercise with supporting the Food Bank - what a concept!
